What is the Purpose of a Will, & Why It’s Important to Have One

A will, or a last will and testament, is a legal document that describes how you would like your property and other assets to be distributed after your death. When you make a will, you can also use it to nominate guardians for your children (under 18), dependents, or pets.

Without a will, you cannot be sure that your possessions will be distributed as per your intentions upon your death, and dying without a will can cause distress to your family and loved ones at a very sensitive time.

What Happens if I Die Without a Making Will?

If you don’t have a legally binding will in place when you die, your possessions (known as your “estate”) are divided up according to the law of England and Wales.
